Please Bring Your Box Back

Bring your wooden box back to us at the Alderney Roots farm whenever you are passing (if no one is around, just leave it by the entrance to the site), ready for us to refill with veggies for next week! *Don’t worry about returning the plastic crates – these can be recycled with your plastic recycling.

Veggie of the Week: White Turnip

We are the first to hold our hands up and admit we are not avid turnip lovers. However, this variety of white turnip has completely converted us. We hope you‘ll love them as much as we do! We have found these tiny turnips work amazingly well roasted with an inch of the tops left on, just be careful not to leave them in the oven too long. They have a very unique flavour, let us know what you think!

Leaf Beet – How-To!

In case you hadn’t guessed, leaf beet is the leaves of the beetroot plant! They are tender and sweet and can be used just like spinach. They wilt beautifully and hold great texture and flavour whilst also adding a lovely colour to the plate. 1 cup of beet leaves equals more than 100% of your daily recommended vitamins A and K as well as 60% of your daily recommended vitamin C. We love a simple poached egg on toast (add some avocado for some extra green if you wish), with wilted spinach and leaf beet. Sprinkle chilli flakes, black pepper and a little lemon juice for a flavourful brunch.
